I already knew that concept art is visual way of showing a basic idea of a character, object or location. They mostly comprise of rough sketches.
I read the 'Just what is concept art?' article and I know now that concept and illustration are not the same, concept art only give a rough idea that is part of a process, while illustrations give completed ideas. Concept art can be shown to the leader of a production group, primarily a producer. I can help with the concept artists in deciding which design to go for or to have a few ideas mashed together.
The purpose of concept art is mainly to obtain funding, but to ensure visual continuity across production team. It is part of a process, that is a NOT finished product.
