Media Theory

07/01/16

Today we brought in magazines, comics and graphic novels and analyse some features.

We then went out into Bath to take pictures of ourselves around the town featuring the things we are interested in, to create a magazine spread about called 'A Day in the Life of ...'

I then began writing a Google Doc called 'A Day in the Life.'

I continued my filming production in Bath and I do believe I have completed my shots.

InDesign

07/01/16

I dragged the photo into InDesign from it's file and placed there. I then used a text tool to put in the writing. I learned a tool called Content grabber and the placeholder text fill in type.

Magazines, comics and graphic novels

07/01/16

What is a magazine?
Is a publication that is printed. Magazines have a list of content, while comic books do not. They have more written content than visual content. The articles in specifically Warhammer Visions are mostly about the about a month's product or about someone's army and how they are painted. Link

What is a comic?
Like a magazine, it is printed but consisting with comic artwork in sequence panels. Comics have speech bubbles to help understand what the characters are saying. They have onomatopoeia which is used to make a sound described in visual form such as 'FRONNK!' is to describe the impact of head and a metal pipe.

What is a graphic novel?
A comic in a book. The only difference is that graphic novels are in self content stories while comics are more episodic and are more longer. Most of them do have a much darker tone in shading artwork than comics. Some people don't like the term graphic novel, because they say it is a 'corrupted' usage by commercial interests. Link

What book have you got?
Star Wars The Force Unleashed

What do you like/dislike?
I do like detailed artwork

Any styles you prefer?
No, I think it's great the way it is.

Any quotes you like?!
"You were weak when I found you." "I did not expect you to survive your training." "But now, your hatred has become your strength. At last, the Dark Side is your ally. Rise, my apprentice." ~ Darth Vader

The story for my Ninja spider project is about Arashi Kumo, a storm summoning, ninjutsu fighting spider who is on a mission with his fellow ninja Sakura, to stop the evil shogun Sasori.

I drew the inspiration from the actual time of the ninja, during the 16th century in Japan. At that time the provinces were at war with each other and some leaders chose to hire ninja to even the odds of battle. But the ninja are more than just killing machines, they have feelings and personal pasts, just as these characters do. I decided for the samurai to pillage Arashi and Sakura's village to show this example of the brutality that went on during that time which will then eventually lead them to become ninja. There will a flashback of their teacher Kamakiri giving them a mission that they were trained for, it was a choice of whether to kill Sasori for destroying their home or gather information on what his next move will.

First blog post of the new term

04/01/15

I created a new SMART target, one is related to the course while the other was general.

No feedback was given to those who have put their documents in the right files. I organised my files correctly.

My feedback was on about how I presented my presentation: my timing should be paced and clear, I need to show a bit of enthusiasm and give a proper sitting position. But overall it was okay.

05/01/16

Tobie demonstrated the use of the camera and reminded us of the key learning, 5-shot method and we all went out to begin filming.

The class was divided into groups to undertake an advertising campaign. We then continued with our popcorn projects using Adobe Flash.

Loud Jags, loud babies!

05/01/16

We were given a task in five groups of doing an advertising campaign that implies words like 'Royal Baby' and 'Car'
The Jaguar was suggested by one of my fellow group members, though I do not know why.
