Construction toy

Great Gizmos - Zoobs 125 Pieces: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/f921aa49-2b0a-42e5-a9d0-90cc8627a62b._CB304616070_.jpg
As I was struggling to get inspiration I research some existing toys. Zoobs uses pieces of elongated plastic with ball and grip joints. One strength of this toy is that it can be made into anything. Whereas Lego uses stacking block connections, Zoobs uses dynamic movement to capture the way things move in nature. If i was a kid, I would compromise on how I can use both Lego and Zoobs.

What will you build with Toobeez? Build confidence, flexibility and imagination with this inspiring toy.:
Toobeez is a line construction toys that strengthens your intelligence as well as your creativity.

What I may also be coming up with is something similar to Lego's Legends of Chima Ultrabuild sets. What i like about this set is how you can make awesome looking characters that is approximately ten inches in height. This got me thinking about using something that hasn't been used yet. I thought of The Elder Scrolls series, because I like the setting, the people, the adventures and mostly the lore. The one character I particularly like is Talos (see below), the legendary hero of a group of people called the Nords.

If i were to do that, I had to ask permission from Bethesda studios, who created The Elder Scrolls series. I searched for anything on Google relating to "Elder Scrolls" and "toys".

Apprenticeships

25/01/16

I had to find one apprenticeship I would like to do.

This apprenticeship seemed to have caught my eye, because I would like to work alongside with directors, producers and the costume production.

InDesign 2

21/01/16

I watched a tutorial on Creating a new document in InDesign. I learned about the sizing using the New Document window and which preset to use.

I watched a tutorial on Creating and Manipulating frames in InDesign. I learned about how to place images into a frame using Place.

After watching these tutorials I feel confident in using InDesign.

How to create panels

  1. Create a new document.
  2. Select amount of columns.
  3. Go to view and select Grids and Guides and then Show Document Grid.
  4. Select Rectangle Frame tool and drag it.
  5. Go to File, then Place for a selected frame(s) and select an image of choice.
Page tool
  • Use this to create multiple pages of different sizes
  • This is useful to create and manage corporate ID documents such as business cards and compliment slips or magazine and brochure gatefolds.
  • Select the page tool
  • Select the size and position of the page
  • Reposition master page elements and drag overlays

12/01/16

We were coming up with our own apps and each presented them to the class.

Comic Book

14/01/16

Dark Rain and Star Wars. They both have their own way of shading, Star Wars uses black shading to make it look dramatic and intense, while Dark Rain uses coloured shading to make it tame but also still holds its intensity.

Star Wars
Layout: Two panels at the top on top of each other.
I like how dramatic it looks in sequences and colouring
There's not a lot of text in this, there is the characters speech and the narrator's speech

Mrs Weber's Diary
Layout: There's a lot more panels and they are small
I like how cartoony it is and it is a 'slice-of-life'
There is a lot of text.

Dark Rain
Layout: Just the right amount of panels as Star Wars and has a wide central panel
I like how the shading is coloured
Minimum amount of text

Media Theory

07/01/16

Today we brought in magazines, comics and graphic novels and analyse some features.

We then went out into Bath to take pictures of ourselves around the town featuring the things we are interested in, to create a magazine spread about called 'A Day in the Life of ...'

I then began writing a Google Doc called 'A Day in the Life.'

I continued my filming production in Bath and I do believe I have completed my shots.

InDesign

07/01/16

I dragged the photo into InDesign from it's file and placed there. I then used a text tool to put in the writing. I learned a tool called Content grabber and the placeholder text fill in type.

Magazines, comics and graphic novels

07/01/16

What is a magazine?
Is a publication that is printed. Magazines have a list of content, while comic books do not. They have more written content than visual content. The articles in specifically Warhammer Visions are mostly about the about a month's product or about someone's army and how they are painted. Link

What is a comic?
Like a magazine, it is printed but consisting with comic artwork in sequence panels. Comics have speech bubbles to help understand what the characters are saying. They have onomatopoeia which is used to make a sound described in visual form such as 'FRONNK!' is to describe the impact of head and a metal pipe.

What is a graphic novel?
A comic in a book. The only difference is that graphic novels are in self content stories while comics are more episodic and are more longer. Most of them do have a much darker tone in shading artwork than comics. Some people don't like the term graphic novel, because they say it is a 'corrupted' usage by commercial interests. Link

What book have you got?
Star Wars The Force Unleashed

What do you like/dislike?
I do like detailed artwork

Any styles you prefer?
No, I think it's great the way it is.

Any quotes you like?!
"You were weak when I found you." "I did not expect you to survive your training." "But now, your hatred has become your strength. At last, the Dark Side is your ally. Rise, my apprentice." ~ Darth Vader

04/02/16

The story for my Ninja spider project is about Arashi Kumo, a storm summoning, ninjutsu fighting spider who is on a mission with his fellow ninja Sakura, to stop the evil shogun Sasori.

I drew the inspiration from the actual time of the ninja, during the 16th century in Japan. At that time the provinces were at war with each other and some leaders chose to hire ninja to even the odds of battle. But the ninja are more than just killing machines, they have feelings and personal pasts, just as these characters do. I decided for the samurai to pillage Arashi and Sakura's village to show this example of the brutality that went on during that time which will then eventually lead them to become ninja. There will a flashback of their teacher Kamakiri giving them a mission that they were trained for, it was a choice of whether to kill Sasori for destroying their home or gather information on what his next move will.

Film task

06/01/16

I continued my task from yesterday on my film with my group. I then went back to college to edit the footage I took today.

First blog post of the new term

04/01/15

I created a new SMART target, one is related to the course while the other was general.

No feedback was given to those who have put their documents in the right files. I organised my files correctly.

My feedback was on about how I presented my presentation: my timing should be paced and clear, I need to show a bit of enthusiasm and give a proper sitting position. But overall it was okay.

05/01/16

Tobie demonstrated the use of the camera and reminded us of the key learning, 5-shot method and we all went out to begin filming.

The class was divided into groups to undertake an advertising campaign. We then continued with our popcorn projects using Adobe Flash.

Loud Jags, loud babies!

05/01/16

We were given a task in five groups of doing an advertising campaign that implies words like 'Royal Baby' and 'Car'
The Jaguar was suggested by one of my fellow group members, though I do not know why.
